The Writing of the Novel El Filibusterismo

Dr. Jose Rizal began writing El Filibusterismo in October 1887 while he was in Calamba. In London (1888), he revised the plot and some chapters. Dr. Jose Rizal continued to work on his manuscript in Paris. Dr. Jose Rizal later moved to Brussels where the cost of living was cheaper and he would be less likely to be distracted by social events so he could focus on finishing the book. He finally completed the book on March 29, 1891 in Biarritz. It was published in September of that year in Ghent, Belgium, partially funded by Rizal's friend Valentin Ventura.

About El filibusterismo

El filibusterismo is the sequel to Noli Me Tangere written by Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal, the Philippines National Hero. El filibusterismo is a Spanish term which means in English as The Filibustering. A filibuster is someone who engages in an unauthorized military expedition into a foreign country to foment or support a revolution. El filibusterismo is written in Spanish and also known by its English alternate title The Reign of Greed.

El Filibusterismo, is being studied by Third Year and Fourth Year High School students in the Philippines as part of the curriculum, usually as part of their Filipino subject.
